Role Overview:
The Mechatronics engineer provides engineering support in the design, development, deployment, documentation, installation, validation and commissioning of industrial automation systems for material handling.
Work Environment: Onsite in Saline, MI
Pay range: $95,000 - $110,000
Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, design, develop, and implement custom engineered solutions, including automation systems that are meeting or exceeding customer specifications and all industry and regulatory requirements.
- Lead project teams, research requirements, present design options, and document results for project teams and engineering management.
- Responsible for designing automation systems, integrating mechanical systems with electronic systems.
- Lead the team (sales, engineering, applications, operations) to analyze client requirements, technical specifications, and project scopes to develop competitive proposals
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, and production expenses
- Travel to customers to identify new opportunities and specify scope of active projects
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather pricing, technical details, and project feasibility insights.
- Generate CAD models, calculations, and possibly simulations to develop and communicate concept solutions, owning the concept development process with the customer from initial requirements through proposal alignment.
- Ensure all proposals are accurate, competitive, and aligned with business objectives.
- Responsible for the designing, developing, analyzing and testing of actuators, motors, power electronics
- Proficient in the use of analytical tools (FEA, DOE, stress/strain analysis etc) to design and problem solve products. Resultant solutions must meet all requirements for cost, performance, creative content, manufacturability, and be delivered to agreed timeframes.
- Applies advanced engineering judgment to problem solving in both design work and in productions issues.
- Researching and staying updated with the latest technological advancements in mechatronics and related fields.
- Lead the development/application of diagnostic tools to troubleshoot durability issues.
- Support hardware development and testing of devices.
- Optimize and refine automation systems for quality and manufacturability.
- Establish and execute design verification test plans for embedded control software.
- Manage the organized release of official control software versions to meet program content and timing requirements
- Integrate Siemens/Allen Bradley PLC’s into the design of the overall system.
- Study the Image Stitching Software Techniques or patterns and support implementation in Inspection System design.
- Define electrical requirements and select appropriate technology for electrical devices
- Work with design team to develop sequence of operations
- Work with controls team to ensure device and system controllability and appropriate failure mode effects management
Critical Competencies for Success:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- 3+ years of experience in related field required, including post-graduate experience preferred
- Hands on experience troubleshooting linear actuators, PLC programming, and pneumatic systems a plus
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentations to customers, peers and executives. Writes and communicates technical reports. Solid technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.)
- Competent complex problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
- Effective design risk management using Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Ability to operate effectively in the project team environment and communicate with Customers.
- Working knowledge of standards and the ability to apply a complex set of standards into designs. Ability to quickly learn, interpret and apply new standards.
- Complete understanding of component functions and testing requirements. Understands advanced manufacturing processes, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Effective time management skills.
- Development of intellectual property.
- Proficient in Solidworks, Siemens NX, or other CAD software
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, and moving equipment.
