Role Overview:

The purpose of this Controls Engineer position is to work as a team member to provide the highest level of Engineering Advantage to our customers by improving designs for manufacturing, profitability, performance, quality, and customer requirements on existing and new products; to provide design support on existing products to all departments within the company; to provide evaluation of all ECNs and BOM revisions to drive customer satisfaction and contribute to sales growth. Perform routine processes, which require application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out production sustaining engineering duties, redesign of existing products, and design of new products.  

Work Environment: Onsite, University Park, IL


Key Responsibilities

  • Basic knowledge of engineering terms and standard engineering techniques.
  • With direction,  the ability to program or modify PLC and HMI’s (Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
  • The ability to design, build and wire control panels. 
  • Understand and develop the required logic to create handshakes between equipment and I.T. systems.
  • Able to perform systems design under general supervision.
  • Ability to specify required hardware.
  • Able to construct PCB layout with direction is a plus.
  • With direction, able to troubleshoot hardware and software.
  • Able to perform soldering and wiring.
  • Completes technical documentation with minimal direction.
  • Able to perform analogue simulation with minimal direction.
  • Competent with hardware and software integration.
  • Able to perform simple mechanical tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Critical Competencies for Success

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Systems and Controls Engineering required. 
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in related field required, including post-graduate experience highly desired.
  • Electrical emphasis on Controls with experience in programming automated manufacturing control systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLC ladder logic, Allen Bradley, and Siemens.
  • Proficient in Solidworks, Inventor, or other CAD software 
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). 
  • Ability to create and edit basic 3D CAD and 2D drawings. 
  • Visual Basic and C++ programming skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills including presentations to customers, peers and executives.
  • Writes and communicates technical reports. Solid technical writing skills (procedures, reports, etc.) 
  • Competent complex problem solving/troubleshooting skills. 
  • Effective design risk management using Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA). 
  • Ability to operate effectively in the project team environment and communicate with Customers. 
  • Working knowledge of standards and the ability to apply a complex set of standards into designs. Ability to quickly learn, interpret and apply new standards. 
  • Effective time management skills. 
  • Development of intellectual property. Syspro or other ERP system experience desired

Pay range:  $85k – 94k
Within the range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to the job requirements. Base pay information is based on market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
