Role Overview:
The purpose of this position is to act as a leader of the Model Shop, a key part of the development and improvement of products and processes. The incumbent will take responsibility for ensuring all systems; processes and practices are optimal for performing the required tasks including fabrication of precision metal and high performance plastic parts.

Key Responsibilities

- Produce prototype and sample parts from conceptual engineering designs utilizing CNC and manual equipment to the required specifications and tolerances.
- Design and make molds for producing prototype parts from various plastic or rubber compounds.
- Fabricate tools, jigs and fixtures.
- Design/build/modify equipment to support new product launches and continuous improvement.
- Provide machining times, from CAM postings, to the costing team for cost estimates.
- Provide information and make recommendation to site Management regarding enhancements to efficiency and quality of machining operations.
- Maximize the ability to deliver prototypes and samples by keeping abreast of engineering schedules and planning activities, accordingly, recognizing and adjusting for possible downtime and material delays.
- Provide management with recommendations regarding equipment, machinery, tooling and/or gauging that will resolve quality problems encountered.
- Participate in product development teams and utilize expertise to ensure that resultant designs are capable of being supported by the defined processes.

Critical Competencies for Success
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High School Degree or equivalent required and a minimum 2 years degree as a general machinist or trade school diploma.
- 5 years of experience operating and programming of CNC machining equipment.
- 5 years combined experience with tool design, die and mold fabrication or model making.
- Experience visualizing, planning and optimizing part production from design to finished product (DFM).
- Proven experience in adapting readily to changing instructions and/or priorities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Norgren APQP procedures
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within teams, positively presenting ideas and suggestions for improvement in a manner in which people will respond.
- Experience working from engineering drawings, CAD/CAM models, sketches and verbal direction.
- Ability to apply demonstrated knowledge of fits and finishes to critical features during machining.

Pay range: $30/hr. - $35/hr
Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience, and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable.
